Loren Fishman

Loren Fishman, MD, BPhil (oxon), medical director of Manhattan Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation in New York City, is a world-recognized pioneer in the treatment of low back pain, piriformis syndrome, osteoporosis and rotator cuff tear, and other conditions. He is associate editor of topics in geriatric rehabilitation, on the staff at Columbia College of Physicians and Surgeons, and a past president of the New York Society of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation. Loren is the author or editor of 100 academic articles and has written many books about yoga and medical conditions, including Relief Is In the Stretch: Cure Back Pain With Yoga (with Carol Ardman); Yoga for Multiple Sclerosis (with Eric Small); Yoga for Osteoarthritis and Yoga for Osteoporosis (with Ellen Saltonstall), and Healing Yoga. After graduating from Oxford University with an advanced degree in philosophy, Loren spent a year studying yoga with B. K. S. Iyengar in India before entering medical school, where he taught yoga to doctors, medical students, and nurses. Throughout his career, when appropriate, he has incorporated yoga into his medical practice.
