Mariah Rooney, MSW, LCSW (she/they) is a justice and collective-liberation-oriented, queer-identifying, curious, and passionate trauma practitioner. She is also the cofounder of the Trauma-Informed Weightlifting program at the Center for Trauma and Embodiment at the world-renowned Justice Resource Institute in Boston.
Mariah has extensive experience in clinical work with children and adults, treating the complex challenges that arise from traumatic stress, attachment trauma, intergenerational trauma, and dissociation. Her work includes clinical practice in outpatient, community, hospital, and specialty care settings and serving as a faculty member in the graduate schools of social work at Winona State University and the University of St. Thomas. Mariah's research and writing have focused on areas such as gender-related violence, sexual trauma, military trauma, trauma-informed embodiment practices, developmental trauma, and systems-level interventions. She works to honor and welcome all parts of individuals, families, groups and systems in order to understand stories of adaptation, survival, coping, and thriving.
